Troubleshooting

Requirements

Thrive Reporter requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6.18 or later. Please visit the following page to check which JRE version you have installed: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

In order to install the JRE, please visit http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

In order to check if your environment is set up correctly we provide a simple test application: Thrive Test.

ThriveReporter.jnlp should have JavaWebStart as the default application to run it. If this is the case then you should be able to see JavaTM icon (see the picture) and you can skip to Launching Thrive Reporter section. Otherwise you can keep reading about how change file types in Windows.

JNLP Icon

Open Properties dialog by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "Properties" option. Click "Change" button to change type of the file.

JNLP Windows Properties.

If you see "Java Web Start Launcher" option then select it and click OK, if not then click Browse to select javaws.exe file.

Changing type of file

By default, javaws.exe file is located in c:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin folder (it can be also jre6). Select it and click Open button.

Setting path to javaws.exe

Launching Thrive Reporter

To launch Thrive Reporter you need to download this file: ThriveReporter.jnlp. Once it's downloaded, you need to run it by double-clicking on it. This will trigger the installation process. The following security warning is going to be shown: Security Warning due to the early stage of the application. Please click “Run” to proceed. This is to be addressed in the next releases.

Please note that it takes a few moments for the Java Runtime to startup and for the installation progress indicator to be displayed.

Once installed, a shortcut will be created on the desktop. To start the application, either use the desktop shortcut or ThriveReporter.jnlp.

Thrive Reporter checks for updates each time it starts and it will install them automatically.

If you experience any problems, please check the Troubleshooting section or contact us at support@thrive-reporter.com

In rare cases, if you are unable to launch the application, cleaning the Java Web Start cache might help. This will cause the application to be re-downloaded, but your data will not be removed.

In order to clean the cache, you need to take the following steps:

1) Start a terminal window (cmd.exe in Microsoft Windows) and run the following command: “javaws -viewer”. The following window will be displayed.

JavaWS Cache

2) Choose Thrive Reporter from the Applications list and click the remove button (red X).

3) Close the Java Cache viewer and run ThriveReporter.jnlp
